We will start with general advice and then we will give you some options that you can use if you need to get emergency funds,

Stay Calm:

You can see this mentioned on everything from T-shirts to general advice books, but it is key. If you’re looking to fix the problem the first thing that you need to do is stay calm. One of the best ways of doing this is to take thirty minutes to 1 hour and relax. Set a time where you are going to come back and address the problem.

If you are really short for time then the best thing to do is contact some of the options that we have outlaid below, this is if you do not have a few hours to spare.

The reason that we recommend taking this step is that you will not be in a great frame of mind if you are panicking and worry. Take a few deep breaths, set a time to address the problem and go from there.

Where Are You?

Once you are calmer, the next step is to work out where you are in terms of finances. One of the best ways of doing this is to work out exactly how much you owe or need for a specific problem. So, look at your most pressing money concern and work out exactly how much money you need to get past this problem. The reason that you will want to do it like this is that you are breaking it down and making it far more manageable.

Although you probably have other areas that you can look at if you are finding that you need money now, we recommend only looking at the most pressing and concerning areas so you can address them.

Let is have a look at some of the available options that you can take if you need emergency funds in 2022:

Crisis Loans:

One of the fastest ways that you can seek help in the U.K.’s with something called a Crisis loan. They have recently stopped calling these loans by the same name and they are now advising that you apply for a Social fund budgeting loan.

The way a social fund budgeting loan works is only in specific circumstances, so you will find that they can help you pay for:

furniture or household items (for example, washing machines or other ‘white goods’)

clothes or footwear

rent in advance

costs linked to moving house

maintenance, improvements or security for your home

travelling costs within the UK

costs linked to getting a new job

maternity costs

funeral costs

repaying hire purchase loans

repaying loans taken for the above items

You will also only be eligible for one of these loans if you have been on certain benefits for six months. Also find that you only have to pay back the amount you borrow, and the repayments are taken automatically from your benefits.

Payment Holiday:

If you are dealing with a mortgage, credit card, loan or hire purchase agreement you may be eligible for a payment holiday. Obviously, this method will only help if it is one of these areas where you need funds. The best way to see about a payment holiday is to contact the company directly.

This can be a very beneficial method as it means that you do not have to worry about getting a loan.

Trouble paying the bills:

If you are having trouble paying the utility bills such as gas, water, electric then the best thing that you can do here is to contact your supplier directly and let them know. In most cases they will have options to help you repay any arrears. This normally means setting up a payment plan, but it means that you are not getting into more financial difficulty.

The other thing to remember here is that depending who you are dealing with the help that you have will depend on the energy company, it can be worth doing some research on the energy company that you are using and the help available as there is a vast difference between each one.

Trouble paying for food:

If you are having trouble paying for food, then one of the options that you have is a local food bank. If you are having trouble locating your nearest food bank, then you can have a look online to find your nearest bank. You will also find that apart from the big organisations that run them you can find locally run food banks too.

In most cases you will need to be referred to be able to use a food bank and these can involve getting referred from a social worker, your local GP, you can also be referred from the police or the local job centre.

The way this works is that you will receive vouchers or sometimes you will receive a letter to exchange for food.

This is not a permanent solution, and you will find that you get a few days’ worth of meals, they can also help in some cases with toiletries or cleaning products and top ups that will allow you to use gas or electric.

The main thing is that this can get you out of a tight squeeze without getting yourself into more debt.

Loans:

You also have the option of same day and short-term loans. The main thing to remember here is to make sure that you only borrow money that you are able to pay back. You need to have a really good idea of how much you want to borrow and how long it will take you to pay it back.

We highly recommend having a look at the options above you are in severe financial difficulty.

By getting a loan you will make the problem worse and then can run into more difficulties down the road.

Extra Help:

If you have had a look at the above options and you are still not sure what to do, then we highly recommend that you go through to the following areas for help:
